The U.S. Marine Corps is currently evaluating how the service employs amphibious forces. After more than a decade of static land conflict, the Marines are refocusing their efforts to the sea. As part of the effort Marine leadership stood up The Ellis Group in 2011. The group is charged with tuning amphibious doctrine to a very different threat environment than the Marines had in 2001.
